My Birth Plan
Sandra Gudem Christensen
Due Date: 6th. December 2009
Partner: Gregory Paul Bigelow
My Birth Plan is prepared for Normal Vaginal Delivery
Support persons: Greg
Place of Birth: RPA Birth Centre
Procedures and Labour
- Maintain mobility
- I prefer no restrictions (Eat and drink to my comfort)
- I would like to choose my positions for pushing and giving birth- all fours/squatting etc.
- I do not want to deliver in the supine position
- I want to be able to labour in the shower/birthpool
Monitoring
- I do not wish to have continuous foetal monitoring unless it is required by the condition of the baby
- In the event that I require or have chosen foetal monitoring, I prefer use of the Doppler
Pain-relief
- I plan to give birth naturally without medication.
- I am however aware of my options for analgesic pain relief and will ask for it I feel it is needed.
Normal Childbirth (vaginal delivery)
- I would like to have the baby placed on my stomach/chest immediately after delivery.
- Please dim the lights for the birth
- I would appreciate having the room as quiet as possible during labour and when the baby is born.
- I want to be allowed time for bonding and breastfeeding prior to all newborn checks (weighing and measuring).
Placenta
- I want a natural 3rd stage. I do not want an injection of Syntocinon after the delivery to aid in expelling the placenta unless I am heavily bleeding.
- I want to wait until the umbilical cord stops pulsating before clamping, to allow my baby to receive the valuable blood and iron stores.
Episiotomy
- I do not want an episiotomy - prefer to tear
- Local Anaesthesia ok (for repair)
Induction/Augmentation
- I wish to be free of time limits and not have my labour augmented unless in a medical emergency.
- I would prefer to be allowed to try changing position and other natural methods before any induction is administered.
- If I require Syntocinon, I would like a very low dose, to be increased gradually and slowly. Once my labour is established I would like to choose to stop the dose being increased, lower the dose or stop the drip to allow my body to continue to labour without artificial oxytocins.
- I prefer to be cannulated in my right hand/arm
Complications & Caesareans
- Unless absolutely necessary, I would like to avoid a Caesarean birth
- In the case of medical emergency leading to caesarean delivery I would prefer:
- Spinal/epidural anaesthesia
- I would like my partner present in the theatre/recovery room
- Pictures to be taken
- Screen lowered to view birth
- Touch the baby
- Cord to be clamped only once it has stopped pulsating
- partner to cut cord
- To have skin to skin contact with my baby in the theatre as well as in recovery
